Mayer Building History

Originally built in 1910, the 3 story F. Mayer Boot and Shoe Co. was a unique structure in the Milwaukee’s Italian immigrant section of the city, clad in white and ivory glazed terra cotta tile. Between 1915 and 1926 the building added the remaining 5 stories.

As the area surrounding the Mayer evolved through the decades, the Mayer now has an unparalleled location as the gateway to the Third Ward – Milwaukee’s premier hub of energy and innovation and a draw for architects, designers, artists, techies, entrepreneurs and service professionals. Pointing to its uniqueness, The Third Ward is listed on the National Register of Historic Places.

The Mayer has been renovated from top to bottom – preserving it’s historical exterior, but bringing the interior into the 21st century.
